To qualify as a “person of extraordinary ability,” the physician could obtain a green card in a category entitled "aliens of extraordinary ability". In order to qualify in this category it must be established that the:

• Physician possesses extraordinary ability in the sciences/medicine which has been demonstrated by sustained national or international acclaim and whose achievements have been recognized in the field through extensive documentation; • Physician seeks to enter the United States to continue work in the area of extraordinary ability; and, • Physician's entry into the United States will substantially benefit prospectively the United States.

In addition, the physician will have to show 1) that he belongs to professional associations which require outstanding achievements of their members, as judged by recognized national or international experts; 2) that the physician has been the subject of articles in major media or trade publications relating to his work; 3) that the physician has participated on a panel or as a judge of the work of others in his area of practice; 4)that the physician has made original scientific or scholarly contributions of major significance; 5) that the physician has written scholarly articles that have been published in professional journals or other major media; 6) that the physician has worked in a critical capacity for an organization with a distinguished reputation in the field of medicine; and 7) that the physician has commanded a high salary or other compensation.
